Time Pilot was released in 1982. It's a free-roaming aerial arcade game, a multi-directional scrolling shooter, designed by Yoshiki Okamoto. It debuted in the golden age of video arcade games and was included in several lists of top arcade games of all time. In this arcade game, the player takes control of a futuristic fighter jet. The goal is to rescue fellow colleagues trapped in different time eras. There are hordes of enemy crafts and a mother ship that must be defeated in each level. In the game, the player travels through five different time periods: 1910, 1940, 1970, 1982 and 2001. All the levels have a blue sky and clouds, except for the last one, which has space theme. The background moves in the opposite direction to the player's plane, which always stays in the center. The game spawned a direct sequel in 1984 and a special version in 1995. It inspired a release of a similar game, Time Ace, in 2007 and was ported to many different platforms, including mobile phones, PC, PlayStation, Xbox and others. It had direct releases on Atari 2600, ColecoVision and MSX in 1983. Time Pilot was very successful in its time and became an inspiration to the genre. It has taken its place in the hall of fame of arcade video games as one of the best games of all times.
