What is Solitaire?

Solitaire, folks, is a fantastic tabletop card game. You can play it by yourself, or with others if you're feeling generous. In the USA, we call it Solitaire when you play by yourself, but over in the UK, they call it Patience. They've got their own style, you know. The term is also used for single-player web games that really test your concentration and skill. Instead of cards, you use tiles, pegs, or stones. It's a real brain-teaser, folks. These games, like Peg solitaire and Mahjong solitaire, really get your mind working. Solitaire games are like puzzles, you see. The starting position can be different every time, so you've got to think on your feet. It's a real challenge, but it's a lot of fun too.

Many types of online Solitaire Card Games

There are several types of solitaire games available online. One popular version is Patience, also known as solitaire with cards, where you place cards in a specific layout and sort them according to set rules. A well-known variant of Patience is Klondike, which is included in the Windows operating system as Solitaire.

Another type is Mahjong solitaire, which uses Mahjong tiles instead of cards. There are two sets of rules for Mahjong solitaire, each with various layouts. One set includes Shanghai solitaire, which features common layouts like the turtle or flying dragon, and Sichuan solitaire.

Peg solitaire is another type, more of a puzzle than a game because once you solve it, you can repeat the solution. Concentration, also known as Memory, Pelmanism, Shinkei-suijaku, Pexeso, or simply Pairs, is a card game where all cards are initially face down, and players flip two cards face up each turn to find matching pairs. The goal of Concentration is to match all pairs of cards.
