The Ms Pac Man Arcade Game
Ms. Pac-Man is an arcade game produced by the Illinois-based Midway Manufacturing corporation. Released in North America on January 13, 1982, Ms. Pac-Man quickly became one of the most popular video games of all time, leading to its adoption by Namco, the licensor of Pac-Man, as an official title. The game introduced a female protagonist and featured new maze designs and gameplay changes over the original Pac-Man. It became the most successful American-produced arcade game, with 115,000 arcade cabinets sold.
The gameplay of Ms. Pac-Man is largely identical to that of the original Pac-Man. Players gather points by eating dots and avoiding ghosts, with contact with a ghost resulting in the loss of a life. Eating an energizer or power-pellet turns the ghosts blue, allowing them to be eaten for extra points. Fruit bonuses can be consumed for increasing point values twice per level. As the levels progress, the speed increases, and energizers generally lessen the extent of the ghosts' vulnerability. In 2009, Game Informer ranked Ms. Pac-Man 10th on their list of The Top 200 Games of All Time, stating that it surpassed the original PacMan game game in nearly every way.
